Who We Are

Living Hope Church, formerly know as Whitnel Pentecostal Holiness Church, was birthed by the power of the Holy Spirit in 1950 following a traveling tent revival. From 1950 until 1998, the church was located on Barcose Street in the Whitnel community of Lenoir, NC. In December of 1998, LHC moved to it’s current campus on seventeen acres of land in the Cajah’s Mountain community just outside the city of Lenoir. From its humble beginnings, God has greatly blessed His church.

Many Godly men have served as pastor of this congregation. Our current Pastor Keith Gilliam began his ministry here in June of 1985 and continues to the present. Under his leadership and by the power of the Holy Spirit, LHC has since grown from a small community church to a vibrant ministry not only reaching the Unifour area (Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, and Alexander Counties), but also lost people and local churches around the world. As a community of worshippers, we understand that our calling goes beyond our local ministry to a world that needs to hear the Good News. We are committed to supporting missionaries and building churches in other nations. Our heart is to make His name known in all the earth.

In this complex society of shifting allegiances and moral compromise, Living Hope Church remains steadfast in worship and obedience to God and affirms and upholds these basic core values as an expression of our devotion to Him.

We value the Word of God.

The Bible is the Word of God, the full and complete revelation of Jesus Christ and the plan and history of redemption. We believe that “all Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness,” and therefore pattern our thoughts, opinions and behavior after its’ teaching. (2 Timothy 3:16)

We value Corporate Worship.

Corporate worship exalts God and is an essential spiritual discipline in the life of the Christ-follower. Corporate worship should lift up the name of Jesus Christ through the power of the Spirit, and as a result encourages, equips, matures and unites us as the body of Christ. (Ephesians 4:11-16; Hebrews 10:24-25)

We value a Consistent Witness.

Our private lives must be consistent with our public testimonies. We “make it our aim to be well pleasing to God,” for “we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.” (2 Corinthians 2:14; 5:9)

We value the Work of the Kingdom.

It is the responsibility of every believer to participate in the work of the Great Commission through the power of the Holy Spirit, both locally and globally. We believe the “effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much,” and we joyfully accept the promise of Psalms 2:8; “Ask of me, and I will surely give you the nations as your inheritance.” We endeavor to heed the Master’s command to “Occupy until I come,” and to do so with generosity and excellence. (Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-20; Acts 1:8; Luke 19:12-14; James 5:16)

We value the Community of Worshippers.

God has composed this body of believers from all cultures and generations to care for one another so that we may “grow up in all aspects into Him who is the Head, even Christ.” Each individual believer is significant, and the proper working of every believer in the body “causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.” (1 Corinthians 12:25; Ephesians 4:16)
