Women's Conference

Women's Conference

Baptism Service
Anyone who would like to be baptized is asked to contact Pastor Keith.  The baptism service is planned for Sunday 9/14 during the 10:45am service.  Baptism is for everyone who has accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.  A meal will be served following the service for all those being baptized and their families.

Ministry Fair
Join us on Sunday evening, 9/14, for our annual Ministry Fair.  All ministries will be on exhibit and there will be free food and prizes.  The ministry fair will begin at 5pm and everyone is encouraged to attend.  Come and find your place!

Married Couples Dinner
Saturday, September 20th, at 5pm the Married Couples group will have a covered dish dinner at the home of David and Aleta West.  A sign up sheet is at the Welcome Center along with directions to their home.  For more information see Crystal Burch.

See You At The Pole
Attention Students!  See You At The Pole is a nationwide effort by students of all ages to invoke God's name over their schools, their homes, and their world.  Join your generation Wednesday, September 24th at your school flagpole and pray.  For more information contact your FCA sponsor or see Pastor Stephen.

Homecoming
Sunday morning, September 28th, Rev. Anthony Craver will be our guest speaker for Homecoming 2008.  Rev Craver will be speaking at all three morning services.  A covered dish meal will follow the 10:45am service. There will be no Sunday School or evening service on that day.

Shatley Springs Trip
The response to the Shatley Springs trip has been overwhelming.  We have added another bus for those who would like to attend and have not signed up yet.  The cost of the trip is $25/person and is October 4th.  The trip includes a tour of the Churches of the Frescoes, the Cheese Factory, and a wonderful meal at Shatley Springs.  A sign up sheet is at the Welcome Center.

ReConnect Conference
Rev Derrick Gardner and Rev Farrell Hardison will be our guest speakers this year for our annual ReConnect Conference October 12-15.  Rev Garner is from Columbia, SC and Rev Hardison hails from Goldsboro, NC.  Mark your calendar and plan to attend.

Celebration Service
Sunday morning, October 26th, the WPHC family will hold one morning service at the JE Broyhill Civic Center.  The service will begin at 10am.  WE are believing the Lord for 1000 people on this special day.  Please invite your friends and join us for this day of celebration!

Emmanuel College Singers
Sunday morning, November 2nd, the Emmanuel College Singers will be ministering in all three morning worship services.  There will be no Adult Sunday School on this day. Join us in worship through song to our Risen King.

JOY Cruise
JOY Ministries will be cruising in December.  Everyone who signed up will be meeting on September 22nd at 6:30pm with the travel agent in the Fellowship Hall to answer any questions you may have.

Accelerant (formerly Fire & Ice)
Accelerant will be January 29-February 1, 2009 in Gatlingburg, TN.  Formerly known as Fire & Ice, Accelerant features intimate worship, relevant messages, and lots of fun in Gatlinburg with 4000 teems from all over the southeast.  the cost for this trip is $135 for non-skiers and $173.50 for skiers.  The first deposit (1/2) willb e due November 9th.  Students interested in going to Accelerant this year may pick up information at the Ministry Fair September 14th.

Family Night
The first Wednesday night of each month we celebrate Family Night.  Our next Family Night will be Wednesday, October 1st; Join us at 6:15pm in the fellowship hall for a good meal provided by the church.  Following the meal the Men's & Women's Ministries will hold their monthly meetings while the children have their regular weekly classes.  Currently, we are studying the book "The Five Love Languages" by Gary Chapman.

Titus 2 Project  
The Women's Ministries will be facilitating a Titus 2 Project which will be partnering ladies in the church with younger ladies (age 13-22) in the church.  The primary focus of this project will be for the lady to commit to pray for the younger lady every day and offer encouragement throughout the year.  The Women's Ministry hopes to sponsor some joint interest opportunities and will sponsor a celebration about a year into the project to include all participants.  If you are interested in knowing more about this project or would like to participate, please contact Lana Gilliam at church, by phone at (828) 728-6102, or by email by clicking .

Habitat for Humanity
Caldwell County Habitat for Humanity is seeking volunteers to help build houses.  Opportunities are available on Tuesday and Thursdays, 8am-12pm.  Volunteers must be at least 14-years-old to be on a worksite and at least 18-years-old to use power tools.  Groups are welcome.  Please call the Habitat Office at 758-8757 for more information or to arrange a time for your group to come out.

JOY Ministries Bible Study
JOY Ministries holds a weekly Bible study at 10am here at the church.  Through God's miraculous, healing power, Pastor David has returned to lead the study on  and invites everyone 55 and over to join him.

Stitch-In-Time

Stitch-In-Time Ministry is making quilts for the homeless in the Lenoir and Hickory area.  They currently need donations of quilt batting.  If you would like to assis, please contact Mary Murphy.  SIT Company is a group of believers who like to do needlework (crochet, knit, needlepoint, etc) and they gather to work on projects for various needs. Past projects include booties for the Caldwell Pregnancy Care Center, cold weather items for troops overseas, and a mission trip out west to provide relief for Native Americans.  A beginner's class is now available.  If you are interested in joining the group or just want more information please contact Mary Murphy at 238-5816 or Donna Daye at 575-3664.

RASORS

The next meeting of RASORS (Radical Adolescents Serving Our Risen Savior) will be Sunday, September 20th at 6:00pm.  Youth ages 12 and under are invited to participate.  David and Shanda Poston are the directors for this ministry and can be contacted for more information.

Children's Ministry Workers needed
Anyone interested in teaching or assisting a teacher in our Children's ministries, please contact Pastor Stephen Jones.

Nursery Workers Needed

Anyone who would like to be involved in the Nursery Ministry is asked to contact Kim Brown or Kim Williams.  Training is provided and everyone must fill out a worker's application. Nursery is provided for children from birth to 3 years old for all services.

The welcome center is always open in the church foyer.  If you have any questions about various activities going on in the church, or need general information, see one of our information specialists.  Also, check out the lost and found...

New Member Class

If you are interested in becoming a member of the wphc family, please sign-up in the foyer at the Welcome Center.  New member classes are held on Sunday evenings at 5:30pm in room A10. If you have any questions, please see one of the pastoral staff. 

Refuge Student Ministries

Teens:  come check out our small groups on Wednesday nights! Join Pastor Stephen Jones in the youth facility at 7pm.  There is also a Sunday School class at 9:15am every Sunday morning. The junior youth group (RASORS) are lead by David and Shanda Poston.  Join them every other Sunday evening...watch the calendar for these events.

JOY Nursing Home Ministry

JOY Ministries would like to invite all seniors, who are interested in giving one day a month, into the Nursing Home Ministry.  Donna Laws is the Nursing Home coordinator and all questions can be directed to her.  Pastor David can be contacted as well.
  A basket has been placed in the Welcome Center area for gift donations (lotion, magazines, etc) to this ministry.  A list of suggested gifts is located at the Welcome Center desk.
 
Prayer

Do you have a prayer request?  If so, please contact Pastor Gray via or through the church office at (828) 728-5353. There are more than 35 prayer warriors online to take your need to the Father.  If you would like to join the prayer chain, please let Angie or Pastor Gray know when you call.

Birthday and Anniversary Pictures

Every Sunday morning we help our loved ones celebrate their birthday and/or anniversary by sharing a picture of them during morning fellowship.  You can submit your picture (preferably ahead of time) to one of the techs in the sound booth. Please make sure your picture is clearly marked with the celebrant's name.  Pictures can also be submitted via email  Pictures sent via email must be sent no later than 8am of the Sunday in which you desire them to be shown.  Please include any special instructions and correct spelling of names.
  If you have submitted pictures and have not retrieved them, you can do so by returning to the sound booth.  We have lots of submissions that need to be returned.

Food Pantry

We are currently in need of food items for our pantry.  Please help us by placing your food items in the church office.  Here is a suggested donation list:
   canned meats
   canned vegetables (potatoes,peas, beans, corn, mixed, cabbage, pumkin, etc)
   canned fruit
   pasta
   tomato products (Spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce, canned tomatoes, tomato paste)
   crackers
   spices & seasonings including salt & pepper
   condiments - mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup
   spreads - peanut butter, jelly
   flour, sugar, cornmeal
   cooking necessities - oil, shortening
   tea & coffee
   Jell-O & Pudding mixes
